A familiar face around the Irving Pulp & Paper mill in Saint John, New Brunswick, Al Hubbard is celebrating 51 years of service with J.D. Irving, Limited (JDI).

Now an engineering manager at Irving Pulp & Paper, Al began his JDI career at the Sussex Sawmill in May 1973 after graduating from the University of New Brunswick (UNB) with a degree in civil engineering. Over the next six years, he had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects at JDI locations across New Brunswick. In 1979, Al began working at Irving Pulp & Paper Mill where he instantly found the the mill’s environment to be "a second home."

"The diversity of projects and opportunities I have gotten over my career are unmatched. Irving Pulp & Paper is like an engineer's paradise," says Hubbard.

A highlight of Al’s career has been working with talented and committed people. He takes great pride in being able to see the next generation of future leaders succeed and grow in their careers.

Over the past 51 years, his biggest takeaway from working at JDI has been the importance of collaboration, paying attention to detail, and taking things step-by-step. This mindset fostered his success, noting “we have steps and standards – a secret recipe for executing successful projects”.

Thank you and congratulations to Al Hubbard for your 51 years of dedication and service!
