Port Angeles, WA - McKinley Paper Mill in Port Angeles is set to lay off 193 employees starting August 25th, as detailed in an email sent to staff last week.

The company has described these layoffs as "indefinite," though there remains hope for the facility to reopen in the future.

According to the local news, Issac Rosas, the Operations Director for McKinley Paper Company, attributed the layoffs to the mill's ongoing challenges in maintaining its workforce. By June 2023, the number of employees had already dropped to 174, down from 200 just nine months earlier.

In compliance with the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, the company has provided the mandatory 60-day notice to its employees. The union has yet to respond to requests for comment.

McKinley Paper Mill is a subsidiary of Bio Pappel, the largest manufacturer of paper and paper products in Mexico and Latin America.
