Union workers at the Sappi paper mill in Cloquet have authorized a possible labor strike after rejecting the company’s latest three-year contract proposal.

The proposal included wage increases, retirement plan improvements, and a signing bonus.

The National Conference of Firemen and Oilers Union, representing about 150 workers, voted against the offer. Sappi has stated that if a strike occurs, the company will pursue all lawful means to continue operations and supply its customers.

Sappi frequently highlights the Cloquet mill's status as one of the most modern pulp mills in the United States, making this potential strike a significant development in the industry.
