The acquisition of the Eilenburg paper mill from Stora Enso in August 2021 marked a strategic move by Model aimed at repurposing the 280,000 tpy newsprint machine to produce recycled corrugated case materials.

With the rebuild, the mill is set to boost production capacity to 600,000 tpy, including lightweight paper grades; Model is poised to enhance its capabilities in the packaging sector significantly.

Operating under the name Model Sachsen Papier, the Eilenburg site is strategically positioned to supply both Model Group's corrugated board plants and third-party clients. This strategic positioning underscores Model's commitment to serving a diverse customer base while leveraging internal synergies for operational efficiency.

In 2023, Model Group produced nearly 475,000 tpy of corrugated case material. With the imminent commissioning of the new paper machine in Eilenburg, the company anticipates a substantial increase in containerboard production capacity, catapulting its total output above 1 million tpy.

The forthcoming commissioning of the rebuild at the Eilenburg mill signifies a pivotal moment in Model Group's growth trajectory, reflecting its dedication to innovation, sustainability, and strategic expansion in the packaging industry.
