Beyond its financial results, UPM used its Q3 2025 interim report to outline key industrial developments reinforcing its transformation toward renewable materials and bio-based growth.

A major milestone was achieved at the company’s Leuna biorefinery in Germany, where the first industrial-scale core process successfully started. The plant will produce sustainable biochemicals, including industrial sugars and lignin-based materials, with commercial sales expected by year-end 2025 and glycol output in early 2026.

UPM also launched a strategic review of its Plywood business to explore long-term options in a changing market, and announced a partnership with Versowood, Finland’s largest private sawmilling company, to secure pulpwood supply amid tight market conditions.

In Europe, the company continues to streamline its operations, confirming the closure of the UPM Kaukas paper mill in Finland by the end of 2025 and the discontinuation of adhesive production in Nancy, France. At the same time, UPM Adhesive Materials is expanding its footprint in the United States, Malaysia, and Vietnam to capture growth in advanced materials.

Recognized globally for its sustainability leadership, UPM received a Platinum rating from EcoVadis, ranking among the top 1 percent of companies worldwide for environmental performance.

Together, these measures illustrate how UPM is reshaping its portfolio to adapt to evolving markets and advance its bio-based growth strategy.
