Segezha Packaging Romania (Segezha Group, part of Sistema JSFC) will supply paper sacks for selected self-leveling materials under the brand Ceresit, part of Henkel Adhesive Technologies, the leading solution provider for adhesives, sealants and functional coatings worldwide.
The new environmentally friendly solution, paper sack with HDPE liner, will replace the existing plastic packaging on certain markets across Europe during 2019-2020. The initiative targets the promotion of renewable resources and sustainable development supported by the company.
According to the recent comparative study on life cycle inventories (LCI)*, an average paper sack produced in Europe is more beneficial for the climate compared to the plastic alternative in terms of carbon footprint and fossil energy consumption.
The study concludes that the carbon footprint of paper sacks is 2.5 times smaller than the footprint of plastic sacks in a cradle-to-gate scope. Moreover, the production of paper-based packaging requires 5 times less fossil energy then the plastic solution.
