Ahlstrom has announced a refined strategy and simplified organizational structure to drive growth and innovation.

Over the past two years, Ahlstrom has streamlined operations, divested non-core assets, and strengthened core capabilities, enhancing profitability despite market challenges.

The company is focusing on five strategic pillars: Growth Acceleration, Safe & Sustainable Innovation Leadership, Operational Strength, Cash Discipline, and Engaged Employees. These pillars will guide each business unit's efforts to lead in existing markets or enter new ones aligned with global trends like clean air and water, sustainable packaging, and decarbonized buildings.

To support this strategy, Ahlstrom is consolidating its five divisions into three:

  • Filtration and Life Sciences: Merges the former Filtration and Healthcare divisions, focusing on air and liquid filtration, life science diagnostics, and medical solutions.
  • Food and Consumer Packaging: Remains unchanged, providing solutions for improved food safety, product preservation, and sustainable packaging.
  • Protective Materials: Combines the former Building Materials and Technical Materials divisions, offering sustainable solutions for building decarbonization and industrial applications.

This streamlined structure aims to simplify operations, reduce costs, and allow business units to focus on growth.

Ahlstrom's President and CEO, Helen Mets, emphasized the company's commitment to becoming the leader in sustainable specialty materials through this refined strategy and simplified organization. Their products have a daily impact on people's lives, from packaging to filtration to healthcare advancements. Mets expressed confidence that Ahlstrom's dedication to safe and sustainable innovation will ensure continued positive contributions.

The new divisional leadership includes Daniele Borlatto leading Filtration and Life Sciences, Sophie Haan leading Protective Materials, and a search underway for the Food and Consumer Packaging division head.

The changes are effective May 1, 2024, with financial reporting reflecting the new structure starting July 1, 2024.
