The safety of our employees and the communities in which we operate is always Metsä Board’s number one priority. We closely monitor the development of the epidemic and are updating our employee guidelines and policies based on new information from relevant global and local authorities.

Metsä Group, of which Metsä Board is a part, has a dedicated team to monitor the development of the epidemic and guidelines issued by authorities, and to share information and best practices within Metsä. The team provides regular instructions to employees on how to implement strict necessary safety measures. At Metsä Board, we have appointed locally responsible personnel to assume coordination and supervision roles at all our locations globally.

The measures we are taking to ensure the safety of our employees and partners include the following:

  • We follow and comply with the advice of the authorities.
  • Actions to prevent the spreading of the virus at the workplaces are of utmost importance. These actions include washing hands thoroughly, staying at home if any kind of symptoms of illness appear and keeping distance to other people.
  • Anyone feeling unwell is expected to stay at home and not come to work.
  • All travel is to be avoided.
  • Remote working from home has been implemented where possible in order to ensure safety and an uninterrupted service to our customers.
  • All visits to Metsä Board offices and mills are restricted.
  • Preventive actions are applied at all Metsä Board production sites with strict procedures in place which cover working arrangements, minimising physical contact and ensuring good hand hygiene and cleaning regimes.

Metsä Board is producing paperboards that are particularly needed to protect goods and ensure consumer safety especially in food and pharmaceutical packaging. We recognise the importance of business continuity and are working hard to ensure we are serving our customers as seamlessly as possible.

We have a contingency plan in place regarding production, sourcing and logistics operations to secure business continuity. We have prepared precautionary action plans and back-up arrangements between the different Metsä Board sites in Finland and Sweden to ensure operational continuity, and we are following up on these plans regularly.

Many of us are now working in exceptional circumstances. In situations like this, a good flow of information and communication is important. We will keep our partners regularly informed through the usual contacts.

I want to take this opportunity to thank our customers, staff, suppliers and all our stakeholders for the patience, endeavor and commitment they have shown at this testing time, and above all I hope you all stay safe.
