Resolute is committed to providing our employees and contractors with healthy and safe work environments.

We link safety to every part of our business by maintaining world-class standards and continuously measuring and improving our performance. Here are some health and safety highlights from our GRI-compliant 2020 sustainability reporting.

Throughout a challenging 2020, Resolute employees continued to put safety first, with over half of our facilities operating without a single recordable injury. Our Menominee (Michigan) employees reached 1.5 million injury-free hours, an achievement that extends over eight years. Employees at four of our Quebec operations – Saint-Thomas sawmill, Resolute-LP – Saint-Prime and Larouche engineered wood facilities, and Alma paper mill – reached the one million hour milestone without a recordable injury.

Even with the integration of our three new U.S. sawmills, we achieved another world-class annual safety performance in 2020, close to the targets we set at the beginning of the year. Our Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) incident rate was 0.62, while our severity rate – indicating the number of workdays lost or restricted due to injury per 100 full-time employees – was 16.8.

Resolute also measures and reports occupational disability and absenteeism rates, as well near-miss incidents. In 2020, 98% of hourly employees submitted at least two near-miss incident reports, and 100% created and reviewed at least two job safety analyses (JSA), or safe operating procedure (SOP) reports.

We will continue to work diligently to reduce the severity of injuries and to enhance our health and safety culture through leadership and individual accountability. Our ultimate goal is to record zero workplace incidents and zero injuries.  We invite you to learn more by visiting our safety performance page on Resolute’s corporate website.
