The online course is designed to be self-directed using your own laptop or tablet, from the comfort of your home or office. If you are looking to have a group partake in the training, consider contacting FPInnovations to host and moderate a virtual or in-person presentation and discussion of the material. To realize the maximum benefit for the learning materials, this educational effort is best paired with telemetry systems that can provide fleet managers data to monitor and provide coaching to make truly exceptional safe and energy-efficient drivers!

Course content

This course reviews driving techniques that save fuel and ensure safety and environmental sustainability. The economic, environmental, and safety benefits of professional driving are presented, as well as the practices and techniques for efficient driving. Practical maintenance advice as well as the judicious choice of truck components are also part of the content.

The course includes the following:

  • Module 1: Smart Driving in the Forest Industry
  • Module 2: Basic Principles for Defensive Driving
  • Module 3: Driving for Fuel Efficiency
  • Module 4: Spec’ing a Truck (choosing truck components)
  • Module 5: Basic Maintenance Knowledge

The course content is presented in the form of videos and includes quizzes to test the student’s knowledge and perception of Smart Driving before and after course completion. The course can be completed in a two-hour sitting, but the learners can go at their own pace and complete as time allows.
